Referendum- going by dictionary is "The submission of a proposed public measure or actual statute to a direct popular vote".
In simple terms, it refers to a "Evaluating the weight in a subject through people's voting".Concept of submitting Referendum is on chart from long ago, but it has gained light in last 2-3 years in world news.
For case, In india, its in demand as the country facing crisis in policy making and opposition blaming every policy of government as unpopular only and due to political interest even keeping on stake the genuine gains from some policies in public interest. This is where the dire need of referendum is felt, whereby Government shall itself submit a referendum on the proposal of some policy, matter or in some case thought process also. It may lead to clarity on subject in terms of its popularity.
But Referendum being the democratic instrument must be used very wisely and with tight hand else it may be misused as it's prone to such situation where the process becomes wasteful, expensive and misguiding.
